How a fast-food clamshell burger box is built

A clamshell food box: a tray with a hinged lid of the same depth, closing with a lock tab and opened with a thumb notch.

Putting it together

1Fold the tray and lid walls up.
2Add the food.
3Close the lid and push the lock tab in.

Measuring for this style

Length (L): The inside length of the base.
Width (W): The inside width of the base, front to back.
Height (H): The inside wall height.

When to choose it

For burgers, sandwiches and takeaway meals that need a firm, quick closure. For flat food like pizza choose a die-cut pizza box.

Before you print

Use food-contact board or a barrier coating where food touches the pack; ask for the certificates.
Grease and steam soften plain board; vents and coatings keep hot food packs rigid.
