How a hinged-lid rigid box is built

A rigid base tray with a lid hinged along the back edge by the wrapping paper, so lid and base stay together.

2Lift the hinged lid.

Measuring for this style

Length (L): The inside length of the base tray.
Width (W): The inside width of the base tray.
Height (H): The inside height of the closed box. Lids and wraps are sized from it with board allowances.

When to choose it

For cigars, tea sets and keepsakes where the lid should stay attached. For a lid that comes off completely choose a two-piece rigid box.

Before you print

Rigid boxes are made from 1.5 to 3 mm greyboard wrapped in printed paper; they do not fold flat after making.
Wraps need about 15 to 20 mm turn-in over the edges; supply artwork with that margin.
Lead times are longer than folding cartons because wrapping is partly manual.
