How a sliding rigid drawer box is built

A rigid tray (the drawer) that slides into a rigid sleeve. A ribbon pull or thumb notch helps open it.

Putting it together

2Slide the drawer out by its ribbon or notch.

Measuring for this style

Length (L): The inside length of the base tray.
Width (W): The inside width of the base tray.
Height (H): The inside height of the closed box. Lids and wraps are sized from it with board allowances.

When to choose it

For jewellery, chocolates, luxury samples and stationery sets where a sliding reveal feels special. For a lower-cost version choose the folding-carton drawer and sleeve.

Before you print

The sleeve is slightly larger than the drawer; allow 1 to 2 mm for a smooth slide.
Rigid boxes are made from 1.5 to 3 mm greyboard wrapped in printed paper; they do not fold flat after making.
