How a snap-lock bottom is built

A tuck-top carton with a 1-2-3 bottom: four interlocking bottom flaps that the packer folds in sequence (side, side, front, back) so a tongue locks into a slot. It holds more weight than a tuck bottom without needing pre-glued bottom flaps.

Putting it together

  1. 1Square the flat carton into a tube.
  2. 2Fold in the two side bottom flaps.
  3. 3Fold the front flap, then the back flap, and press the tongue into its slot until it locks.
  4. 4Load the product and close the top tuck.

Measuring for this style

Length (L)
The inside width of the front panel, left to right.
Width (W)
The inside depth from front to back: the width of a side panel.
Height (H)
The inside height from the base to the top opening.

All sizes are inside dimensions. Add 1 to 2 mm of clearance around the product. How to measure

When to choose it

A good middle ground for medium-weight products packed by hand, such as jars, bottles and kitchen goods. For high-speed packing choose an auto-lock bottom, which locks itself when squared.

Before you print

  • The lock needs a minimum front-to-back depth; very shallow cartons cannot fit the tongue and slot.
  • Keep text and logos 3 mm inside every crease so folding does not crack the print.
