How a straight tuck end is built

A four-panel tube (front, side, back, side) glued along one side seam. The top and bottom closures both hinge from the same panel, so the tuck tongues tuck in towards the same face and the cut edges stay out of sight on the front. Two dust flaps at each end stop the product slipping past the closures.

Putting it together

  1. 1The carton arrives flat with the side seam already glued.
  2. 2Square it into a tube.
  3. 3Fold the bottom dust flaps in, then fold the bottom closure over and push the tongue in.
  4. 4Load the product, fold the top dust flaps in, then close and tuck the top.

Measuring for this style

Length (L)
The inside width of the front panel, left to right.
Width (W)
The inside depth from front to back: the width of a side panel.
Height (H)
The inside height from the base to the top opening.

All sizes are inside dimensions. Add 1 to 2 mm of clearance around the product. How to measure

When to choose it

Pick a straight tuck end for retail cartons that open from the top and show a clean front, such as cosmetics, candles and supplements. For faster, cheaper gluing on long runs choose a reverse tuck end; for heavier products choose an auto-lock bottom.

Before you print

  • Dust flaps must clear each other across the opening; very narrow, deep cartons need shorter flaps.
  • Friction locks (small slits at the tuck shoulders) stop the lid springing open; ask for them on light products.
  • Keep text and logos 3 mm inside every crease so folding does not crack the print.
