How a variable-depth postal shipper is built

A slotted shipping carton with extra horizontal score lines on its walls. Cutting down the corners to a score line and folding the flaps there lowers the box to fit the contents.

Putting it together

  1. 1Choose the height that fits the product.
  2. 2Cut down the four corners to that score line.
  3. 3Fold the flaps along the new score and tape.

Measuring for this style

Length (L)
The inside length.
Width (W)
The inside width.
Height (H)
The tallest setting. The lower score lines give the shorter settings.

All sizes are inside dimensions. Add 1 to 2 mm of clearance around the product. How to measure

When to choose it

For warehouses that ship many product sizes and want fewer box sizes in stock. If every order is the same size, a regular slotted carton cut to that size uses less board.

Before you print

  • Each extra score line weakens the wall slightly; keep to two or three.
  • Corrugated adds thickness: the outside is about two board thicknesses larger than the inside on every axis.
